Lecture will be held in English
Emerging in dialogue with the transatlantic film avant-gardes of the 1960s, Paolo Gioli has established his reputation as one of Italy’s most important contemporary experimental filmmakers. One of the great archeologists of cinematic and photographic technologies, Gioli’s films — often made with homemade pin-hole cameras — combine a stunning visual experience with a sustained investigation of the technological bases and perceptual/physiological processes essential to the cinema. This lecture offers a survey of Gioli’s work within a general history of experimental filmmaking in Italy.
