At the end of the 15th century the Aragon Kingdom of Naples underwent a serious crisis which ultimately led to its conquest and absorption into the crown of Spain. Despite the political vicissitudes, the major intellectual activities that had characterized Southern Italy throughout the Middle Ages were still encouraged at the turn of the 16th century.
